The General Store at the C&O Canal, located along the historic towpath once used to transport freight from Georgetown to Cumberland, is situated at mile marker 10.7 on the Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT). This 22.5-mile paved trail offers a scenic journey through the mountains, avoiding steep climbs.
Our unique shop provides bicycle rentals, repairs, and sales, along with a screened-in bunkhouse for tired travelers seeking a place to rest for the night. It’s the perfect stop for snacks, drinks, or essential supplies before you continue your adventure.

We specialize in the gear you need most along the C&O Canal and WMRT, including tires, helmets, saddles, panniers, and racks.
If you prefer to ride your own bike on the C&O Canal or WMRT, you can have it shipped to us. For a small fee, we’ll assemble it and ensure it’s ready for your journey. We can also box it up and ship it back to your home when you’re done.

My dropper post died at my Hancock hotel in the middle of my Cumberland to Georgetown ride. I’m grateful that 1) they open early!! and 2) they have a good selection of parts, and 3) they have a great staff! Thanks for your help last weekend!

Lee and I were nearby picking up a geocache while on our roadtrip to Virginia, and we decided to head inside to check things out, since we are also cyclists who enjoy browsing bicycle stores.
This is a great little store. They are within walking/cycling distance of the C&O Canal, and it seems like they do a brisk business in bicycle rentals. They were a little bit disorganized at the time of our visit because they were in the middle of merchandising, but that’s OK, we’re not picky.
They have a little bit limited selection of accessories, but I decided to pick up a frame pump while I was there. They have a nice selection of T-shirts, and I am pretty bummed I didn’t give in to my desire to pick one up, they have some great designs. Perhaps next time I’m in the area, I definitely would head into here!

Great bicycle shop right on the C&O canal towpath and Western Maryland Rail Trail. These guys have been taking care of my bikes for the last five years and provide great value and service. Their bunkhouse is a great stop out of the rain and off the floor for those doing ridethroughs. I highly recommend stopping by if you happen to be riding by Hancock.

“Great service”
These folks are always ready and willing to lend a hand. I have had routine maintenance done here for several years on an older bike and they are friendly and knowledgeable. On our last stop they even adjusted my nieces training wheels for no charge. They have a good selection of bikes and accessories as well as drinks and snacks. I believe they also offer lodging for traveling bikers and other commodities for those on long bike trips.

“Inexpensive place to sleep in Hancock!”
I slept in the bunkhouse after biking from Harpers Ferry to Hancock on the C&O Towpath. For $15, you get a roof over the head, screened porch to keep the bugs out, an outdoor shower, and port a pot.
The bunk beds have foam camping pads; I had an air mattress which I used. There are plenty of outlets for charging electronics, and a couple of fans to keep air moving in case it’s a warm night (which mine was).
Although there are free campsites on the Towpath, I like showers, and while the place isn’t “Pretty”, it’s very functional. I would sleep there again!

I did a couple overnights, in the back camping area in 2015 from from DC to Cumberland and back.
Thinking about doing it again, but on an e-bike. I can only practically go about 50 to 60 miles before recharging.
I would imagine I could do that there, but are there any other bike shops or service stations, where I could charge up along the way?
