Second Sheetz Store Coming to Berkeley Springs

The image shows a Sheetz logo with a red and yellow background. The text reads "FRESH FOOD" at the top and "MADE TO ORDER" at the bottom, with "SHEETZ" prominently displayed in the center in large white letters with a 3D effect.

A second Sheetz store is coming to Berkeley Springs.

Sheetz has an agreement to purchase property at the corner of US 522 and Winchester Grade Road.

That’s just two miles south of the Sheetz store at the corner of US 522 and Rt. 9 in Berkeley Springs.

When asked whether the Sheetz at Rt 9 would be closed down, Brian Dinges, a real estate site selector for Sheetz, said that decision would be made not by him, but “at a higher level” within the Sheetz corporate structure.

Sheetz has about 500 stores, more than half of them in Pennsylvania and the rest in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

Sheetz employs more than 16,000 people.

Sheetz is a private corporation and is family owned.

Dinges said that there are communities where there are more than two stores within a couple of miles of each other.

Dinges said that the new store would be much larger than the one on Rt. 9.

Dinges says that if everything goes well, the new store could be open within a year.

“Usually it takes up to six months for the due diligence, another six months for the permitting and four months for construction,” Dinges said.

The closest Sheetz stores to Berkeley Springs are 37 miles south in Winchester, 25 miles west in Martinsburg, West Virginia and 8 miles north in Hancock, Maryland.

At the opening of its 500th store earlier this year, CEO Joe Sheetz said that “Sheetz is experiencing exponential growth, and this marks a significant milestone, not only for our company but also for the three generations of the Sheetz family who continue to run it.”

“From one small dairy store founded by my uncle, Bob Sheetz, in 1952, we’ve grown to one of the fastest growing family-owned convenience retailers with 500 stores across six states,” Sheetz said.

The company was named one of Fortune Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2014 and is included on the Best Places to Work lists in Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
